Owls are one of the most mysterious and charismatic predators in the world. Despite the huge number of stereotypes that exist, we know very little about them. Owls differ from other birds. These somewhat anthropomorphic winged creatures are the conquerors of the night, while almost all other birds live in daylight.

You think you know a lot about owls You may think you know a lot about owls, however, a lot of information remains pose our knowledge. And our wise friends have quite a few interesting stories to share. Owls vary greatly in size, appearance and coloration but they all share one thing: the ability to turn his head 270 degrees.

In order to accomplish this task, their necks consist of 14 vertebrae, while the “normal” birds have seven of them. If the cervical vertebrae provides the range of motion, many creatures – such as humans – would suffer traumatic arterial injuries and interruption of blood flow under these extreme movements.

In an attempt to understand how this is possible, scientists have found that owls have special systems collecting blood to supply the brain and eyes when the movement of the neck cuts blood circulation. Another amazing thing about owls is the alternative route of blood through the blood vessels, as well as protecting the blood vessels with an “air cushion” protecting it to prevent blood vessels from tearing and stroke during sudden movements of the head.
