A small bird found itself in distress on a cold New Year’s morning in Idaho. Its feet were frozen onto a steel fence and it could not free itself.
Nelson Wilson, a man who was feeding horses nearby, noticed the struggling house finch and found a surprising way to help separate it from the fence.
Wilson mentioned the bird’s chance mistake of drinking from a heated tank and resting its wet feet on the fence momentarily as having been the cause of the problem.
He managed to free the bird with his own breath.
