German Shepherd is chained up his entire life, then sees the ocean for the first time

Imagine spending five years of your life chained. That must be the most horrific thing one can experience. Sadly, that is what the adorable German Shepherd Herschel was destined to because of his cruel and heartless owners. The dog was eventually rescued, and his story serve to teach people that he was one of the lucky ones who got a chance for a better life, because not every rescue story has a happy ending.
Although mistreated and neglected by his owners, this dog could still find happiness in the little things in life and wagged his tail whenever he was around people. But this made people think he was aggressive so finding a home for Herschel wasn’t easy.

If the dog wasn’t adopted soon he could end up on the list of the unadoptable dogs and could eventually be euthanized.

But it seemed like God had other plans for this giant dog. He got the chance of being part of the Rocky Kanaka’s show “Dog’s Day Out.” Kanaka is an Emmy Nominated TV host, entrepreneur and Pet Rescue Advocate whose life mission is to travel across the country and help homeless pets. He took Herschel out and said:
“He got to see snow for the first time, and he got to give free teddy bear hugs to be shown love. And that day got him enough awareness that now we’re taking a road trip from Los Angeles to deliver him to his new furever family that lives in Washington state.”

The dog’s reaction of seeing the ocean for the first time in his life is what made people fall in love with his vibrant personality. That is also when his new family noticed the dog. They said welcoming Herschel was like winning the lottery.

Herschel’s excitement is so heartwarming that we can watch his reaction of seeing the vast open space over and over again, and it will always put a smile on our face. The dog is both happy and puzzled because he had no idea that splishy-splashy playgrounds like this even existed!
