India has a massive amount of street dogs and one-third of the world’s rabies death count. However, one particular woman, Pratima Devi, is making her mark on this situation. At 65 years old, Pratima gives up almost everything she’s got to look after these 400 dogs in New Delhi.

Pratima left her husband because of marital problems and gladly thrust right into serving dogs in need of help. Although her son attempted to have her relocate to their village, she refused to abandon the dogs. As reported by Barcroft, she explained:
“I feel happy to live with them. When I was with my husband, I wasn’t happy. I used to work all day and run the house. My husband didn’t work.”

She isn’t all by herself on this remarkable endeavor. Vivek, an 18-year-old boy, helps her look after the dogs. Alongside one another, they make certain that all the dogs are well-fed, cleaned up, and also get their injuries taken care of. The two even make certain that the dogs get their vaccines.
And when we say well-fed, we really mean EXTREMELY WELL-fed, because they eat rice, meat, and milk three times a day.

“These dogs are like my own children. I bring them home and take care of them. Some of them have been abandoned by owners or have been in road accidents. They are alive with me.”
